Experience a watershed moment as you meander through this award winning collection of Tucson’s River of Words 2009 Youth Poetry and Art. Children ages 5-19 explore the concepts of watershed, water cycle, and conservation to better understand how all life is interconnected. With this confluence of experience and a drop of creativity these young poets and artists share their unique perspective of the natural world. Many thanks to the 2009 Tucson’s River of Words coordinators, educators, poetry and art judges, graphic designers, and volunteers: Wendy Burroughs, Leia Maahs, Yajaira Gray, Steve Russell, Axhel Munoz, Alexandra Fisher, Kevin Johnson, Kimi Eisele, Cameron Conaway, Laynie Browne, Charles Alexander, Jennifer Camano, Joy Mehulka, Edie Price, Linda Howard, Laura Cotter, and Alan Alderman. Classroom Workshops
The following free multi-disciplinary programs are offered on a limited basis to K-12 schools with an interest in participating in Tucson’s River of Words Youth Poetry & Art Contest. The students must first participate in the Exploring Watersheds Lesson before moving on to the Poetry Writing Workshop and/or Mixed-Media Art Workshop. It will require a total of 3 to 4 class periods for the students to complete the Watershed education and one poetry or art workshop, plus time to prepare their work for submission to the contest. If you prefer, Tucson’s River of Words Lesson Plan Packets are also available.
