Creating A Vibrant Community
Live at the ArtCulture Partnership
Artists enhance the quality of community life. The City of Tucson and the South Park Neighborhood have developed an opportunity for artists to live, work and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the south Park area. An art and cultural facility has been developed from a pre-existing five-plex housing unit and is devoted to fostering and promoting arts and culture in the South Park neighborhood and surrounding areas. The center includes two buildings and an outdoor courtyard for classes, workshops, lectures and exhibits. In addition the facility includes two renovated apartment units. We are currently accepting apartment rental applications from working artists. Metropolitan Housing Corporation (MHC) is the facility manager of the complex and occupies an office at the facility.
Location The ArtCulture Partnership apartments are located in the South Park neighborhood at 35th St and South Park Avenue. They are convenient to downtown, I-10 and the Tucson International Airport. The South Park Neighborhood is undergoing a major transition and has recently seen construction of new infill single-family homes and the renovation of public housing units. The Quincie Douglas Center and Library and the large Silverlake Park are located a few blocks away. A public swimming pool, adjacent to the Quincie Douglas Center, was completed by City Parks and Recreation in early 2006. The vacant area south of 36th St, between Park Ave & Kino Blvd., will undergo a major redevelopment in the next year or two. This mixed-use project will bring new homes and residents, as well as commercial and retail uses to the South Park Neighborhood.
Rental Apartments The remodeled two bedroom apartments are approximately 1,000 sq. ft., with one bath, a living room, a kitchen, a spare room and a laundry room. The apartment located on the ground floor includes a gated courtyard. The second story apartment has a small porch area.
Rental Range Rent is $400 per month plus a 10 hour/monthly time contribution to the cultural center. Gas & water are included in the rental price. Occupants pay their own electrical service. The initial lease is 6 months and a security deposit will be required when the lease is signed.
Expectations The artist selected to live in the apartment will be expected to contribute to the cultural life of the community in exchange for discounted rent. It is envisioned that they will present public programming (e.g.; workshops, demonstrations, exhibits, performances) at the facility with an emphasis on inviting participation from the surrounding community. The exact exchange will be negotiated between the artist and the cultural center coordinator.
Selection Process Interviews for the apartment will be conducted by a representative from MHC and the Art and Culture Coordinator.
Application Procedure The following application materials are required. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- A Completed application form: Application.pdf (60k)
- A résumé that summarizes the applicant’s training in the arts, experience/participation in public programs (exhibits, performances, readings), teaching and work experience. Résumés can be supplemented with up to 5 examples of press clips,

C) 8 production photographs, or
D) 8 pages of sample scripts, works of fiction, non-fiction and/or poetry.
