Advocacy

The Tucson Pima Arts Council engages in local, regional and national advocacy for arts and culture in order to support the region’s creative economy, enliven our communities large and small, and enhance our quality of life.  The 21st century world demands new ways of thinking and doing. Creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship—all qualities inherent to the arts—are what we need to move forward our economy, educational systems, and civic infrastructure.  An investment in the arts, through both public and private funding, is a good investment for Tucson, Pima County, the state of Arizona, and all of its citizens.

TPAC launched the TPAC Arts Advocacy Network—a group of more than 200 artists, arts supporters, and activists—to promote the public value of the arts, arts education, and the local creative economy.

If you are an artist or performer, or the director of an arts organization, or a board member, or involved with the arts in some way (which we all are), or, if you simply care about our community’s future, join us in speaking up and speaking out for the arts.

“Art is a nation’s most precious heritage. For it is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and to others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. And where there is no vision, the people perish.”

– Lyndon Johnson, on signing into existence the National Endowment on the Arts
