Get Involved -- Support the Arts Council

The Arts Council has numerous opportunities to become involved in the arts and cultural development of our region. You can serve on a panel or committee, volunteer, or even become a member of our Board of Directors.

Membership

One of the easiest ways to get involved is to become a member. You can support the Arts Council and enjoy that warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from knowing you've done a good thing for your community and the quality of life here in Tucson and Pima County.

Call our front office to charge your contribution over the phone (520) 624-0595 x10, or send a check with "TPAC membership" printed in the Memo area. All contributions of all sizes are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Recommended pledges:

  • $35 to $50 basic membership pledge
  • $51 to $100
  • $101 to $250
  • $251 to $500
  • $501 to $1000
  • over $1000

Grants Committee

Grant committee responsibilities include: review of requests for mini grants 3 times a year; review of grant panel comments from previous year for potential changes to grant guidelines; assist in identifying panel members; participate in public hearings on any guideline changes; attend orientation for panel members and one workshop for organizations; participate as panel members on one grant panel; serve on allocations committee to develop grant awards recommendations to the Arts Council Board of Directors; and assist in developing technical assistance workshops.

In addition, grant panels meet annually to review grant requests for General Operating Support Grants and Project Grants. The panels review projects that include performing arts, visual and media arts, literary arts, festivals, and arts education. Three panels review general operating support grants: GOS I, GOS II and GOS III.

Public Art Committee

Meets 2nd Wednesdays at 4:00pm at the Arts Council offices. Citizens, particularly artists, interested in public art are encouraged to attend.

Defined by Public Art Administrative Procedure with 21 members: 7 appointed by the Arts Council, 5 appointed by County Supervisors, 7 appointed by Mayor and Council, and one each by City and County Manager. The Chair is appointed by the Arts Council Board Chair. The Chair is a Board member or member of the community. Arts Council appointed members may be Board members or members of the community.

Responsibilities include approving Calls to Artists; approving juries for projects; final approval on selection process of artists for percent-for-art projects; and assisting staff in technical assistance and public information workshops.

Arts Advocacy Task Force

This community-based Arts Advocacy Task Force meets throughout the year to conduct research, assess needs and develop strategies to increase public and private support for the arts and to address cultural policy issues affecting the artists and arts organizations throughout the City of Tucson and Pima County community. This committee includes representatives from the arts community, neighborhoods and the board.
