6:30pm at the Tucson Museum of Art
140 N. Main Ave
A free public Forum on Arts and Culture with City Council Candidates will be held on Thursday, October 11 at 6:30pm at the Tucson Museum of Art. The focus of the forum will be the City of Tucson’s support for the arts.
This event is co-sponsored by the Arizona Opera, Arizona Citizens for the Arts, Tucson Children’s Museum, Tucson League of Women Voters, Tucson Museum of Art, and the Tucson Pima Arts Council.
Candidates scheduled to participate include: Mayor Robert Walkup, Vice Mayor Shirley Scott, Daniel Spahr, Regina Romero, Beryl Baker, Lori Oien, Rodney Glassman, and Dave Croteau. The Tucson Museum of Art is located at 140 N. Main Ave.
The format will include comments from the candidates and their responses to questions prepared by the host group. Candidates will also address written questions from the audience.
“This is an opportunity for the candidates to share their vision of Tucson as a cultural hub and discuss issues related to the cultural vitality of this region,” said Roberto Bedoya, executive director of the Tucson Pima Arts Council.
Topics may include government and other funding resources for the arts, infrastructure to support a creative economy, arts and cultural facilities, and other issues addressed in the nearly completed Pima Cultural Plan that was funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
According to a recent study by Americans for the Arts, arts and culture comprise a significant industry in Pima County, generating $57 million in local economic activity per year. The Arts & Economic Prosperity III report also indicated that art and culture in this region is substantially underfunded compared to other cities and the national average.
